Music in the blood

Born in Derbyshire, England, David was part of a rich musical heritage. Not only was his Grandfather one of the most celebrated band leaders of his day and his Dad a world-class drummer, but his entire family were musically immersed. By the age of 10, he could play 6 instruments at concert level and had already begun working with his grandfather, orchestrating and composing. He went on to have an impressive early career as an internationally acclaimed singer, instrumentalist and composer appearing all over Europe, a highlight being a solo performance at The Royal Albert Hall, London.

But then someone suggested getting a ‘proper job’

With a baby on the way and not much work, someone suggested that it was time to get a ‘proper’ job. He did, and ended up becoming an influential change leader, working with organisations (including schools and charities) across the world. So, as it turns out, this ‘interlude’ in his musical career gave David a level of business expertise which makes him invaluable as a film composer. He understands the challenges filmmakers face and works with them to faithfully translate their vision into a musical reality.

Would ‘destiny’ be too strong?

Despite this ‘proper job’, David still managed to professionally compose and when destiny came knocking with an opportunity to create a score for a project in Egypt, he grabbed it. He has since gone on to score music and songs for many diverse projects across film, tv and digital media. David has spent his whole life immersed in his love for music and whether in the studio, on the sound stage with the orchestra or traveling the world experiencing world music, it’s clear that he was born to do this.
